Do you cover 1099 contractors that I hire for my business?

This answer is specific to EnergyPro Insurance. Contact our team for specific named insured definitions in other policies for business owners.

The EnergyPro policy automatically extends coverage to all sole proprietors or all owners/officers of the Named Insured company listed on the policy. Employees can be added for an additional premium of $99 each/year.

The policy is not designed to extend coverage to 10-99 contractors and they cannot be added to the policy as employees. Any independent contractors would need to purchase their own separate insurance policy.

·      If a contractor is leasing sub-leasing space from you for their own operations, then your policy does not extend coverage to them. They would need their own policy in place, and we recommend having your business named as an Additional Insured on that policy.

·      If the service is being offered under your operations, then your business is covered in the event of a lawsuit. However, the contractor may or may not be covered, should they be individually named in a lawsuit.

The safest way to conduct business with a contractor is to require they purchase their own coverage. This protects your business from their operations and provides an additional level of comfort should there be a claim unrelated to your business.
